Unplugging the Power

In the summer of '88 Nintendo of America published the first issue. In the winter of '07, issue #222 was the first published by Future US. Today, on December 10th, 2012, I hold in my hands the very last issue of Nintendo Power.

Perhaps it's just my love of Mario, but there's something genuinely depressing about this concept. My subscription dropped a couple years back, but Nintendo Power, like the big N itself, has always seemed almost eternal to me.. unwavering in the face of whatever circumstance the market finds itself in. Obviously it's all just a big show; Nintendo's just as much a money-grubbing corporation as Microsoft or Sony (alright, well maybe not that bad) and Nintendo Power, despite any other appearance, was always one giant advertisement. But they're so endearing in their presentation. You can flip to any given page in any given issue of Nintendo Power and just feel the passion.

I'm not sure what kind of point I'm trying to get at here, but I think what I'm feeling is understandable to just about everyone with pleasant memories of the NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GCN- whatever. It's just sad to see a piece, regardless of how significant, of that joyous nostalgia fade away.. I've never been good at good-byes, so I hope that if anyone reads this they can grasp how difficult is has been to articulate all this...

Good-Bye, Nintendo Power.
Thank you for 24 way cool years.
